After the drama of the Brazilian Grand Prix, we've got an exclusive essay on the safety of Formula One, which has improved dramatically since Imola 1994, when both Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna were killed.
We've also got an essay on the curious true case of Henrietta Lacks, who died in 1951 after developing cervical cancer. The twist to the story is that cells from her tumour were kept alive - and they're still alive in 2009!

Another Saturday morning working on the website and making sure orders get to where they need to be. Livened up somewhat by some new sample essays looking at some interesting subjects, including Roald Dahl, Leonard Cohen and Kurt Vonnegut.
Meanwhile, our Twitter account has now passed the 1,000 follower mark, which is pretty cool, especially considering we only set it up a couple of months ago. Naturally, we're now starting to think about getting to the 2,000 follower level...

We spent part of yesterday updating our Twitter account, which now looks a lot nicer. We also went through our followers list and weeded out a few (well, about 600 actually!)...

24houressay Towers has been busy with some impromptu cookery today, as some of the staff decided it would be a good idea to try to make pesto from a basil plant in the kitchen. After much cutting and chopping of various ingredients, a cup of chunky green pesto was delivered to the rest of the staff.
The verdict? Far too strong (too much garlic) to be eaten on its own, but very good when combined with other ingredients in a sandwich. Back to work now, though.

We're getting ready for Halloween by planning a series of paranormal-themed essays, plus something of a small makeover for the site. Stay tuned for more details soon!

An essay written by Paul McCartney (from 'The Beatles') when he was just 10 years old has been unearthed. In it, he discusses the British royal family, and although the work was marked down for a few small spelling and grammar errors, he still won first prize in an essay-writing competition organised by his local library!

It's raining. A lot. So much, in fact, that none of us feel like going outside to pick up the staff lunch today. Dilemma: dry and hungry, or wet and full? Perhaps we'll draw straws, and one unlucky person will be sent on a mission...
Edit: We did indeed draw straws, and one unfortunate member of the 24houressay team is now getting into his rain gear for a mad dash to the nearest Pret a Manger!

Given that Formula 1 is something of an office passion here (yes, we know it's not exactly environmentally friendly, but they're making an effort with things like KERS, which should transfer to road cars in the next few years), we've confucted a little poll to determine who our staff think will take the championship.
The results are in...
90% think Jenson Button will do it, but only 25% think he'll wrap it up in Brazil.
10% think Rubens Barrichello will sneak past him at the end in Abu Dhabi.
No-one thinks Sebastian Vettel will 'do a Raikkonen' (see 2007) and grab the title at the final race of the season.
I personally think Jenson will do it, possibly even in Brazil. After all, Rubens has had bad luck there consistently over the years. It'd be poetic justice, in a way, if Jenson wraps it up at Interlagos, seeing as at the same race last year, while Lewis Hamilton was taking the championship at the final corner, Jenson's Honda (as it was called back then) was expiring in flames by the side of the track!
